Wonderball, a new music festival, is set to take place at Ives Concert Park in Danbury on Saturday, May 4. Eight up-and-coming local bands will be featured, including The Most, at this outdoor event on the westside campus of Western Connecticut State University.
Charlotte Chauvin, of WXCI, which serves the Danbury area, says Wonderball is WXCI’s newest festival. WXCI (91.7 FM) is the university’s student-run radio station.
The bands will play all kinds of music, from alternative and indie to emo, punk, rock, soul and more. There will also be a bounce house, photo booth, cash bar, raffle and lawn games.
Aside from The Most, Chauvin said the lineup includes The Touro Band, Mickey Blurr, Chris Daly, Namesake, Pearl Sugar, Turtle Dad and Waking Up Now.
“Wonderball is completely student run,” Chauvin said via email. “WXCI members have been collaborating on every detail all semester. Several of the bands (Turtle Dad, Mickey Blurr and Chris Daly, have members in WXCI or are WCSU alumni.
“We are also doing live interviews with bands throughout the week, so stay tuned! We wanted to create a radically inclusive and amazingly, wonderfully fun event for everyone! We decided to make it free for students for this reason, and also as a gift to WCSU for a great year. We plan on making this a yearly event, and expanding in the future.”
Chauvin says Wonderball is the same day as the Bethel Pride parade. She said festival organizers would love to see folks make a day of it — attend the parade and then head over to Wonderball. WXCI representatives will be at the parade with half-off ticket vouchers.
Wonderball is one of several events planned for Ives Concert Park this spring. Others include a Water Lantern Festival on Saturday, May 11, and the 4th annual Art at Ives Juried Fine Art & Crafts Show during the weekend of June 1 and 2, featuring jazz flutist Sherry Winston on Saturday, June 1.
