Michael Jackson’s music has allegedly been dropped from BBC Radio 2’s playlists following new child sex abuse claims. The decision is reported to have been made last week in advance of Channel 4 News’s documentary about the star’s alleged crimes, Leaving Neverland, which will be broadcast this week.

The last Michael Jackson song Radio 2 are believed to have played was his 1979 hit Rock With You, which was broadcast on Saturday 23 February. BBC radio 2 said the singer, who died in 2009, had not been dropped off the playlist as it only showcases new music. Radio 2 playlist mainly focuses on new music and Jackson has not released new work since his 2014 posthumous album Xscape.

A spokesman for the BBC denied that Michael Jackson has been dropped off the Radio 2 playlist and said  “We don’t ban songs or artists and Michael Jackson, like any other artist, could be played on BBC Radio. As we have said, we consider each piece of music on its merits and decisions on what we play on different networks are always made with relevant audiences and context in mind”.
