Chinese artist and producer Lunkai Li 李伦恺 returns with an inspiring and deeply personal new single, ‘Choose Love’, a heartfelt celebration of resilience, hope and the strength to keep moving forward.
Known professionally as a full-time mixing engineer based in Beijing, China, Lunkai Li never planned to become a songwriter. That changed dramatically in 2021 after being diagnosed with metastatic cancer. During breaks in treatment, music became a way to process the experience and leave behind something meaningful, leading to the creation of original songs inspired by one of the most challenging periods of life.
The journey began with ‘And We Start The Song’, written in 2021 and released in 2022. Created while confronting the fear of death, the song became a deeply emotional reflection that the artist has described as a personal farewell. Recovery brought a new perspective, inspiring ‘On Life’, written in 2024 and released in 2025 as a hopeful vision of what life could become after years of healing.
Now, five years after surviving cancer, Lunkai Li marks a significant milestone with ‘Choose Love’. Rather than dwelling on hardship, the single embraces optimism, gratitude and perseverance. It is an uplifting anthem that celebrates personal victory while offering encouragement to anyone facing their own struggles.
Musically, the track also reflects a unique cultural collaboration. Lunkai Li originally envisioned incorporating the sound of the traditional Chinese bamboo flute, but conversations with talented Celtic musician Ian Fontova revealed surprising similarities between ancient Chinese musical modes and Irish and Nordic folk traditions. The result is a beautiful fusion of Eastern and Western influences that gives the song a distinctive and timeless character.
