Pretoria-based musician and performer Phindy Maphendola announces the release of her highly anticipated EP,The Pulse 1: The Journey of Becoming, a deeply personal body of work that marks a bold new chapter in her artistic evolution.
With this project, Phindy introduces Afro-Pulse, a groundbreaking sound she developed alongside her creative team. Afro-Pulse blends Afro-pop melodies with the energetic drive of dance music, allowing space for emotional depth and vocal expression. The result is music that is both danceable and deeply reflective.
Known as a key figure in the Bacardi dance music movement and celebrated for her electrifying performances, Phindy uses The Pulse 1 to step beyond the genre that first defined her career. After nearly a decade in the industry, the EP represents her decision to follow her heart, reclaim her voice as a singer, and refuse to be confined to one musical box.
“Afro-Pulse is the genre I’ve been longing for. I entered the Bacardi scene as both a singer and a dancer, but deep down I’ve always been more of a singer. With Afro-Pulse, I can finally be myself — free to express my emotions through music.”
The Pulse 1: The Journey of Becoming explores themes of love, loss, loyalty, unemployment, spirituality, forgiveness, and hope. From heartfelt love songs capturing new beginnings to raw reflections on hardship and resilience in South Africa, each track speaks to real-life experiences while offering healing through rhythm and sound.
More than just an EP, The Pulse 1 is a statement of growth, freedom, and becoming. It reflects Phindy Maphendola’s journey as an artist who continues to evolve while staying connected to her roots, her people, and her purpose.
